NOW HIRING: DEERHAMMER KITCHEN MANAGER
OVERVIEW
Deerhammer’s Tasting Room & Kitchen, is the guest-facing hospitality component to our adjoining craft whiskey distillery in Buena Vista, Colorado. We are seeking a self-motivated, experienced Kitchen Manager with positive energy and a passion for food to join our team. There is a high degree of autonomy for this position. The ideal candidate will feel perfectly comfortable picking up the reins of this food program and bring it to the next level. This is your chance to live–work–play in Colorado’s best mountain/river town.
The Deerhammer Kitchen exists within the walls of a kitchen trailer that is permanently integrated onto Deerhammer’s expansive indoor/outdoor patio space next to the distillery. While compact in size, this kitchen is fully decked out with proper equipment, utilities, walkin cooler, prep space and freezer space.
Deerhammer Kitchen has become known for House Smoked Wings, Burgers, and Fish & Chips. Our kitchen is inspired by the concept of Mountain Town Comfort Food.
Classification: Full Time, Year Round.
Reports to: Owners/Distillery manager
*Note: This position requires current residence or relocation in Buena Vista, CO (or vicinity).
SUMMARY
The Kitchen Manager delivers consistent, quality food to customers on time and within budget. This position leads back-of-house staff before, during, and after food service. The Kitchen Manager inspects the kitchen to ensure everything is meticulously organized, cleaned, and sanitized appropriately. Manage all inventory, costing, labor, scheduling, equipment operation/maintenance, food quality, staff training, optimization. In addition to management responsibilities, this position requires working the line 30-45 hours/week.

COMPENSATION PACKAGE
Year 1 projected Compensation - $60-$70k depending on experience, tip pool and overtime.
$22/hour plus tips, overtime.
$1/hour of hourly wage will be paid out November 2024 (stipulated retention bonus).
May through September - 50-60+ hours/week.
October through April - 40-45 hours/week.
Tips projected at $8-$10k+/year.
Deerhammer offers housing assistance to you as an employee.
Beginning Nov 1, 2023, there is an optional 1 bedroom, furnished apartment available at $1400/month (includes all utilities). It is a 5 minute walk to the distillery.
This is a 6 month lease which ends May 1, 2024.
If needed, DH will assist in finding other living accommodations which begin May 1, 2024

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manages inventory so that all necessary ingredients are stocked for service.
- Hires new staff and provides training to facilitate quick acclimation.
- Develops and maintains the menu with owners and distillery manager.
- Sets regular cleaning standards for the kitchen and verifying staff is maintaining sanitation
- Creates and maintains schedules for all kitchen staff, covers for sick calls.
- Is accustomed to dealing with staffing issues.
- Tracks kitchen finances to identify areas of potential waste
- Works with tasting room manager to maintain a cohesive visitor experience
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of 3+ years experience in kitchen management
- Able to be successful with a high level of autonomy
- A strong base of culinary knowledge
- Food Safe Certification
- Be able work and train people on all stations - prep, cook prep, grill,fry and expo
- Ability to work well under pressure and in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive attitude
- Physical stamina to withstand a full shift on their feet, sometimes in a hot kitchen.

- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to track and report relevant kitchen data (ex: inventory, patterns, profit, loss, etc)
- Willing to work a flexible schedule
- Manage a team of 3-10 people, depending on season.
- Familiarity with Toast POS a plus
- Minimal time off during the summer
- Experience running a food truck a plus
- 1 year commitment - through October 2024.
